Grandma’s Cranberry Cookies

If you’re looking for a simple, back to basics cookie recipe for the holidays, or really any time of the year, try grandma’s recipe.

We love these cookies because they’re not super decadent or overly sweet, and the sugar coating on the outside gives them a yummy little bit of crunch while keeping the inside really soft. They’re a perfect accompaniment to coffee or tea.

To add a little holiday flair to these cookies, swap out raisins for Craisins (any sweetened, dried cranberry will do). The secret to these cookies is simmering the dried cranberries in water so that they become moist and plump before adding them to the cookie batter. And a surprise ingredient is a little Crisco. If you really want soft cookes, then Crisco is the way to go.

Apple Candleholders

Apples are in season, and they just so happen to make adorable––not to mention budget-friendly––candle-holders. We saw this simple craft listed for Halloween, but we think it can be used for so much more.   Place them on windowsills and mantels for a unique way to cast a glow and usher in fall. Use them in a bowl or on a plate for a unique centerpiece for Thanksgiving. Or place some loose greenery around it for a red and green Christmas display.

Easy Slice ‘n’ Bake Vanilla Bean Christmas Sugar Cookies w/Whipped Buttercream.

Tieghan at halfbakedharvest.com is worth a looksie. She has amazing recipes – Like this Vanilla Bean Christmas Sugar Cookie.  What I really like and what really attracted me to these particular sugar cookies was her quote:

These are cookies for people who want to have fun making cookies, people who have kids or people who just want a good frickin’ cookie. The whole slice and bake thing takes the effort right out of these and saves you your sanity. And the easy delicious frosting saves you from hours of trying to create the perfect picture cookie only to come up with something that looks like an art project gone so wrong. Plus, um again, they are so good.

There you go. Delicious cookies that anybody can make and everyone will enjoy.   Plus, I just LOVE her ‘secret ingredient’.
